I'm trying to teach my kids Spanish for when we move to Mexico next year, and their Spanish tutor suggested getting some fake pesos so they can practice buying things in pesos. I said "I have a printer, I can just print some".
WRONG
I needed 15 of each bill, so I happily put them all on a page and printed 15 copies.
They. All. Came. Out. Red.
Like, fully fully red one every square inch of the page. I was so confused. My printer was obviously broken or something. I googled it. I tried manually cleaning the red one. Still red. I tried removing the red cartridge. Wouldn't print. I tried printing in black and white. Worked fine. I tried recalibrating the colors. Still red. I tried recalibrating twice. Still red.
And then it hit me. Isn't it illegal to print money??
Google says I can only print money if it is 75% scale or 150% scale of real money. I tried printing at 75% scale. It worked fine.
A fortune in red toner later, and I have my small, fake, legally printed pesos.
