Surprise Casserole

David was sweet enough to make dinner tonight. It was a chicken, rice, and cream of mushroom soup casserole.

Once the timer went off saying it was done cooking in the oven, we served ourselves up and I found a little surprise in the casserole.

He dropped a fork in there while preparing it and didn't notice. Made me giggle.

Rice

Today I looked up how to cook brown rice in the microwave. This website told me to put 4 parts water and 1 part rice, cook for 5 minutes covered, then cook for 20 minutes uncovered. It had great responses saying it worked. I trusted it.

Bad idea.

I only wanted to make a small portion of rice, which might be why mine failed. I did 2 Tbsp rice, 8 Tbsp water. I cooked it for 5 minutes, added some more water, then cooked it for 8 more minutes because I thought 20 sounded like way too much.

I went about doing my business until I smelled some burning.

And burning there was.

I guess it ran out of water and got really hot and my tupperware couldn't handle it.

On the bright side, once it cooled down a little bit I was able to cleanly scrape off the melted plastic.

Patriotism

David had a meeting to go to at 5:30 yesterday. His meeting was in a building right behind the flag pole on campus. At 5:25 he rushed away from me because he was so worried about being late, and I started walking home.

At 5:30, I realized David had the only set of keys to our apartment.

I ran back to the building his meeting was in, frantically calling him, hoping he would have a chance to answer his phone. Unfortunately for me, flag take-down occurs right at 5:30. This means that people in uniform where patriotically taking down the flag while the national anthem blared over the speakers and 30+ people in the area stood still with their hands over their hearts out of respect.

I was frantically walking past all these patriotic people and was so embarrassed that I had act so rude so that I could get the keys from David.

Murder in the Kitchen

Today I was attempting to make this recipe for homemade Twizzlers.

Raw-Strawberry-Twizzlers... wonder how good these would be... I do not like any of the original twizzlers though...

My counter was covered in stuff from trying to make these.

One of the ingredients was a cup of beet juice. I was trying to mix all the ingredients on this really crowded counter, and as luck would have it, I spilled the leftover beet juice.

I had no idea until today that beet juice is the the most stain-worthy type of color. It looks like blood. Pure blood. And that is how it looked like a murder in my kitchen.

PS the recipe tastes nothing like real twizzlers and mine looked nothing like the picture, but they taste yummy anyways. They taste like fruit leather.

Broccoli Soup

I found this video where Gordon Ramsay makes broccoli soup in 5 minutes with just broccoli, water, and salt, so I went to try it out.

You blend the hot broccoli with some hot water to make the soup. And when you blend hot things, it is really hard to keep the lid of the blender pressed tightly. Trust me.

The soup is pretty yummy, but don't add too much water. Mine was very liquidy.

Cold Banana

If you go snowboarding, do not bring a banana with you as your snack. Bananas get mushy and gross in the cold, and then when you fall the banana will explode all over the inside of your fanny pack.

Thank goodness only my camera case was in the fanny pack, not my camera.

Cardboard Box

If you have a cardboard box full of car things (oil, chains, jumper cables, etc.) in your trunk for over a year and you don't tape the bottom of the box, it will pop open when you eventually take the box out. All of your car things will spill all over the parking lot.
